China Life Insurance Company Limited has signed a special and exclusive Business Cooperation Intention Agreement with Good health Worldwide (Bermuda) Limited on 19 January 2006 to commence the first worldwide healthcare plan in Mainland China. The official product launch is set to take place within two months.
The entry of china to the World Trade Organization has drawn a growing number of multinationals into the Mainland to set up the regional offices or branches. This in turn led to the development of emigrant population in the country. It is estimated that the number of westerners staying currently in China is at more than 300,000.Due to the barriers in languages and cultural differences, they often not able to get the most ideal medical services and insurance coverage in China. Expatriates often prefer to travel to Hong Kong for surgery or other important medical advice, pointing to the health care for global insurance products in China.
At present there are no global healthcare insurance solution is available in china. All the healthcare plans are underwritten by the registered insurer in the country. As the medical policies now issued by insurers in China do not cover treatment outside the Mainland, in effect no expatriates staying in China engage in a local medical plan. The new insurance product to be launched by China Life Insurance and Good health Worldwide will offer expatriates a convenient pick.
