Obama administration with the help of stimulus package will show that it has made progress on the health care reform, perhaps softening the blow if Congress fails to comprehensively address the issue this year. Congress has approved two bills; one is that they will spend about $19 billion in electronic health records in the future and an additional $1.1 billion on research. Another bill is that nearly $1 billion would be spent on prevention and wellness fund. Jenny Backus, spokesperson of HHS has said "This represents the beginning steps of the president's health reform vision,"
Many liberal democrats have defended this package. Many liberals are debating how to ensure that the stimulus outcome does not define the outer boundaries of his agenda, so that future legislation is not limited, as the stimulus was, by the demands of centrist senators.
Theda Skocpol, a Harvard University political scientist said that we have to be out there explaining in the most elementary ways why something like universal health care is good for America. Nothing is going to change in one bill or in one week, it's going to take a long time. Many of obama supporters are happy with this package. According to Jacob Hacker, obama has the ability to get support from republicans for health care proposals.
