There are nearly 12 million Californians who do not have health insurance. According to Executive director Ron Pollack "most of the uninsured are from working families, and their lack of insurance is not just a temporary situation". Of the 12.1 million people who were uninsured in the past two years were from working families where at least one worker worked either part or full time.
Anthony Wright, executive director of Health Access California, says the report shows being uninsured doesn't happen to just one portion of the population, and that meaningful health care reform is needed. The report says that every Californian has had a family member, neighbor or friend who was uninsured. Opponents of health care reform say it will cost too much and give government too big of a role in the health care system.
