KENTUCKY - Insurers might be required to offer parents the option of considering unmarried children on their health insurance policies until the age of 25 under a new bill that was passed yesterday by the Kentucky House of Representatives. This measure was intended to reduce the number of youths who lack basic health insurance. The House Bill 440 passed 97-0 and now goes to the Senate for further consideration.
Now parents would have to spend extra to have their adult children to be included into their health plans. The bill, backed by the Kentucky Medical Association, also might require an insurer to give a health care provider for more specific fee schedules. Insurers would also have to provide 90 days' notice before changing the payment rate.
